Stephen Pace
Am. b. 1918
Stephen Pace was a seasonal resident of Stonington, Maine for nearly 40 years and often painted at Monhegan as well. Initially known for his abstract work, he slowly migrated to a looser representational style as can be seen in the iconic Maine painting below. His work is included in over 50 museum collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
An exhibition of Stephen Pace's paintings and drawings was held at Fryeburg Academy's new Palmina F. and Stephen S. Pace Galleries. A review of the exhibition, the new Pace Gallery and Stephen Pace's career can be found in the September 13, 2009 Audience section of the Maine Sunday Telegram.
